Arvind Kejriwal Accuses Gujarat Govt of ‘Crushing Farmers’ With Police Action

by Desk

Arvind Kejriwal in Rajkot accused the Gujarat govt of detaining peaceful farmers, using police force, and filing false cases during protests.

RAJKOT: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal  launched a strong critique of the Gujarat government, alleging that it is suppressing farmers through police measures and falsely implicating them in legal cases.

Kejriwal is undertaking a three-day visit to Gujarat and addressed the media during a press conference in Rajkot, where he also met with the families of farmers who were recently detained.

Kejriwal claimed that the state authorities employed disproportionate force against farmers engaging in nonviolent protests. The Gujarat government has employed baton charges against farmers, deployed tear gas, and detained them through the filing of false cases. Today, I had the opportunity to meet their families, he stated. According to him, approximately 88 farmers were apprehended, with 42 having been granted parole and 46 still in detention. I trust that they will also be granted parole shortly, he added.

Censuring the governing BJP further, Kejriwal asserted that despite persistent public concerns, problems such as illegal liquor and narcotics continue to be prevalent in the state. There is counterfeit alcohol throughout the entire state of Gujarat. Pharmaceuticals are readily accessible in this location. The BJP government lacks the capacity to apprehend them.

However, they detained the farmers who were peacefully voicing their concerns, he observed.

Positioning the Aam Aadmi Party as an emerging influence in Gujarat politics, Kejriwal stated that residents had previously been left without a genuine alternative. Until now, individuals had no alternative, as the BJP and Congress were in collusion. Now, individuals have a choice: the Aam Aadmi Party, and progressively, AAP is extending its reach to every household throughout Gujarat,” he stated. He forecasted substantial political transformation in the upcoming state election. After two years, the BJP administration will have concluded its tenure… all the fabricated FIRs lodged to intimidate citizens will be rescinded, he declared.

Drawing a parallel with the colonial period, he remarked, “There was a time when the British believed they could not be expelled from India.” Similarly, the BJP government will shortly be withdrawn from Gujarat.

Demanding the prompt release of the remaining detained farmers, Kejriwal stated that the BJP must “relinquish its arrogance” or “nature will run its course.”
