New Delhi : In a bizarre incident in East Delhi’s Preet Vihar, a brand-new Mahindra Thar crashed out of a showroom’s first floor after a ritual went wrong. The SUV, recently purchased by a Ghaziabad couple, flew through a glass wall on Monday evening when the woman behind the wheel accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of performing the customary lemon-crushing ritual.

According to Delhi Police, the accident occurred around 5 pm. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, though the SUV overturned after plunging from the showroom’s elevated display space.
How the Accident Happened
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Abhishek Dhania confirmed the details on Tuesday. He said Pradeep, a Ghaziabad resident, had visited the showroom with his 29-year-old wife, Maani Pawar. They were accompanied by Vikas, a showroom salesman, while final delivery formalities and the pooja were underway.
During the ritual, Maani was asked to drive the car forward to crush a lemon placed under the wheel—a traditional gesture believed to ward off bad luck. However, instead of gently pressing the clutch and brake, she mistakenly accelerated. The SUV lunged forward, smashed through the glass wall, and landed on the ground below.
“Fortunately, all three occupants escaped without injuries. No complaint has been registered, and the showroom has not pressed charges,” Dhania stated.

Soon after the mishap, a video from the scene surfaced on social media. It shows the Thar overturned outside the showroom, with shattered glass scattered around. The empty frame of the glass façade stands in stark contrast to the luxury SUV lying on its side.
The clip quickly went viral, sparking humorous and critical reactions online. Many users expressed shock at how quickly the mishap escalated, while others highlighted the risks of inexperienced drivers handling powerful vehicles.

While the accident caused significant property damage, the absence of injuries brought relief to police and showroom staff. Authorities confirmed that the showroom has not filed any FIR, and the matter was resolved without further legal complications.
