Punjab Police secures Interpol notice against Satta

Chandigarh – In a significant breakthrough in Punjab’s fight against narcotics, a Blue Corner Notice has been issued against Canada-based drug smuggler Satpreet Singh Thiara, popularly known as Satta.

The notice comes as part of the state government’s ongoing anti-drug campaign Yudh Nashian Virudh, launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. Officials confirmed that the move follows months of detailed investigations by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

According to Punjab Police, Satta, originally from village Banga in Nawanshahr, has been identified as a co-accused in the 2021 NDPS Act case filed against Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia. The case, registered under FIR No. 02 dated December 20, 2021, at Punjab State Crime Police Station in SAS Nagar, invoked Sections 25, 27A, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Satta’s links to Bhola drug racket

Investigators revealed that Satta frequently visited India between 2007 and 2013, the period when the infamous Bhola drug racket was active in Punjab. During these visits, he was linked to a drug cartel worth nearly ₹6,000 crore.

Authorities added that Satta’s network allegedly enjoyed political patronage during that time. His name has surfaced repeatedly in probes that trace the flow of narcotics and black money between Punjab and Canada.

A Punjab Police spokesperson said, “On the request of the SIT, the competent authority has approved and issued a Blue Corner Notice against Satpreet Satta. This is a decisive step in collecting intelligence about his movements and connections abroad.”

What is a Blue Corner Notice?

A Blue Corner Notice, issued by Interpol, helps authorities gather additional details about a person’s identity, location, or activities. Unlike a Red Corner Notice, which seeks arrest and extradition, a Blue Notice is primarily used for tracing individuals under investigation.

Officials noted that this notice will allow international agencies to share information about Satta’s travel, contacts, and financial activities. This intelligence is expected to strengthen Punjab Police’s case as the anti-drug campaign intensifies.

Punjab’s war on drugs continues

Chief Minister Mann has repeatedly pledged strict action against drug smugglers and their political protectors. Under his leadership, police have intensified raids, tightened border surveillance, and strengthened coordination with national and international agencies.

The issuance of a Blue Corner Notice against Satta, who has been accused of playing a key role in transnational drug trafficking, signals Punjab’s resolve to dismantle global narcotics cartels that exploit the state’s youth.

Police sources added that further action, including the possibility of a Red Corner Notice, may follow depending on the evidence collected and cooperation from international enforcement bodies.
