Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Hoists Flag in Mahadalit Tola

Patna, August 15: On the occasion of Independence Day, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar participated in a flag-hoisting ceremony at Dihri Musahari Mahadalit Tola in Kalyanpur Panchayat, Punpun Block of Patna district.

The event saw active participation from local residents and beneficiaries of various state welfare schemes. The Chief Minister reiterated the state’s commitment to inclusive development, ensuring that even the most marginalized communities are connected to the mainstream.

Inclusive Development as a Priority

Addressing the gathering, Nitish Kumar said the state government is continuously working to uplift Mahadalit communities. Efforts are being made to connect the “last person” to development through targeted initiatives.

One of these initiatives is the special flag-hoisting program in Mahadalit Tolas, organized on Independence Day and Republic Day across Bihar since 2011. This symbolic event aims to promote equality, pride, and awareness in communities historically excluded from mainstream celebrations.

Tradition of Elderly Flag Hoisting

In a unique tradition, the flag is hoisted by an elderly person from the host Mahadalit Tola. This gesture honors their contribution to the community and symbolizes respect for senior citizens.

At the district level, the event is conducted under the leadership of the District Officer and Superintendent of Police, with participation from the minister in charge. Senior district officials also visit various Mahadalit Tolas to ensure representation and engagement.

Connecting People with Government Schemes

During the ceremony, benefits of several welfare schemes were distributed to eligible residents. These include housing support, educational aid, and livelihood assistance under ongoing state programs.

Local residents were also informed about the significance of Independence Day and educated on the methods to access government benefits. Officials explained application processes, eligibility criteria, and contact points for grievance redressal.

The Chief Minister noted that such direct interactions help bridge the gap between the government and citizens, ensuring schemes reach their intended beneficiaries.

Long-Term Commitment to Grassroots Development

This Mahadalit Tola initiative has been a consistent feature since 2011, reflecting the Bihar government’s long-term approach toward social equity. By combining national celebrations with targeted welfare outreach, the program strengthens both cultural unity and socio-economic progress.

Nitish Kumar emphasized that development is meaningful only when every citizen enjoys its benefits, regardless of caste, region, or economic status. He urged officials to maintain personal engagement with the people and keep welfare delivery transparent.
