Meerut, UP:
In a startling and potentially historic medical Case, doctors at Meerut hospital discovered that a 30-year-old woman’s 12-week foetus was implanted and growing within her Liver and not uterus. The condition is known as intrahepatic ectopic pregnancy, a phenomenon so rare that it could be India’s first documented Case.
What Happened?
The woman experienced abdominal Pain and sought medical help, but routine examinations didn’t reveal any signs of normal uterine pregnancy. Detailed ultrasound and MRI scans showed a Sac firmly attached to a segment VI of the liver, along with a surrounding hematoma and visible fetal heartbeat.
How rare is this?
Less than 1% of ectopic pregnancies are abdominal; these cases are very rare only 14 reported around the globe in over 35 years
Experts noted that the liver’s blood- rich surface can occasionally support early embryonic attachment but such pregnancies pose high risk of life- threating bleeding and are extremely difficult to detect.
Why this matters?
- Medical Milestone: If confirmed, it would be first ever intrahepatic ectopic pregnancy in India
- High Risk: These pregnancies are dangerous and require advance planning
- Early detection Saves lives: Prompt diagnosis helped doctors to act swiftly to prevent serious complications for Mother
