PAN Card New Rules from April 1: Aadhaar Alone Not Enough for New Applications

PAN card new rules make date of birth proof mandatory along with Aadhaar from April 1.

New Delhi: In a significant update for taxpayers, the PAN card new rules will come into effect from April 1, making it mandatory for applicants to submit additional documents along with Aadhaar. The move is aimed at strengthening verification and reducing discrepancies in identity records.

According to information shared by CSC e-Governance Services, applicants will no longer be able to rely solely on Aadhaar for obtaining a new Permanent Account Number (PAN). Those who apply before March 31 can still use the existing simplified process.

PAN Card New Rules Explained

Under the revised PAN card new rules, applicants must provide valid proof of date of birth along with Aadhaar while submitting their application. Authorities have also clarified that older application forms will not be accepted once the new system is implemented.

Currently, PAN cards can be issued through Aadhaar-based e-KYC without additional documentation. However, from April 1, the PAN card new rules will make date of birth proof compulsory for all new applicants.

List of Accepted Documents

To comply with the updated PAN card new rules, applicants may need to submit one of the following documents:

  • Birth certificate
  • Voter ID card
  • Class 10 marksheet or certificate
  • Driving licence
  • Passport
  • Affidavit certified by a magistrate

Officials say these changes are intended to improve accuracy in identity verification and minimize errors in official records.

How to Apply for PAN Card Online

Despite the changes, applicants can still apply online through the official portal. The process remains largely similar under the PAN card new rules:

  1. Visit the official NSDL website
  2. Click on “Apply Online” and select New PAN – Indian Citizen (Form 49A)
  3. Choose the category “Individual”
  4. Enter personal details like name, date of birth, email ID, and mobile number
  5. Submit the form and note the generated token number
  6. Complete Aadhaar-based OTP verification
  7. Fill in address and parent details
  8. Opt for e-KYC to auto-fill address details (optional)
  9. Pay the application fee online
  10. Complete Aadhaar authentication via OTP and submit

After submission, the application will be processed and the PAN card will be issued once verification is completed.

Apply Before March 31

Applicants planning to get a PAN card are advised to apply before the deadline, as the current process allows completion using only Aadhaar. Once the PAN card new rules come into force, submitting additional documents will be mandatory, making the process slightly more detailed.
