India–France Garuda 25 Air Exercise Enhances Interoperability and Joint Tactics

IAF and French Air Force begin Garuda 25 in France with Su-30MKI jets, IL-78 refuelers, and C-17 support to boost joint combat tactics and interoperability.

From November 16–27, 2025, the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the French Air and Space Force (FASF) will take part in the 8th iteration of the bilateral air exercise’Garuda 25′ at Mont-de-Marsan, France. The IAF contingent, which will be using Su-30MKl fighter aircraft, arrived in France on November 10, 2025. The IL-78 air-to-air refueling tankers are used to increase the range and endurance of the participating fighters, while the C-17 Globemaster III provides airlift assistance during the induction and de-induction portions of the exercise.

With an emphasis on air-to-air combat, air defense, and combined strike operations, the IAF’s Su-30MKI aircraft will fly alongside the French multirole fighters in intricately simulated air combat scenarios throughout the exercise. In order to facilitate mutual learning and promote interoperability between the IAF and the FASF, this exercise attempts to improve tactics and procedures in a realistic operational setting.

Additionally, Exercise Garuda 25 offers the two Air Forces a chance to share best practices, exchange operational expertise, and engage in professional contact. By taking part in this exercise, the lAF demonstrates its dedication to fostering mutual understanding and cooperation in the area of air operations by positively interacting with friendly foreign Air Forces through multi-lateral exercises.
