New Delhi: In a sudden and dramatic turn, the Delhi weather update on Wednesday revealed a sharp shift as heavy rain, strong winds, and a steep temperature drop brought back winter-like conditions to the capital just as it was preparing for summer.

The sudden change was triggered by an active western disturbance over northwest India, which intensified rapidly by evening, catching residents off guard.

Sudden Temperature Drop and Disruptions

According to the latest Delhi weather update, strong winds reaching speeds of up to 68 km/h swept across the city, followed by intense spells of rain. Within just an hour, temperatures dropped sharply from around 29°C to nearly 19°C.

The abrupt change disrupted normal life, including flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport, and forced residents to pull out winter clothing once again.

Rare Weather Phenomenon

Weather experts have described the system behind this Delhi weather update as rare and unusual. A western disturbance with a unique structure, featuring a long, straight trough spanning thousands of kilometers, has led to strong thunderstorms and widespread rain across North India.

Experts warned that such systems have the potential to generate severe weather conditions, urging people to stay cautious and follow advisories issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

More Rain and Cold Conditions Ahead

The Delhi weather update indicates that the impact is far from over. Forecasts suggest multiple spells of rain and gusty winds over the next few days, keeping temperatures significantly below normal.

Meteorologists predict that maximum temperatures could range between 16°C and 22°C across parts of North India, nearly 10–15°C below average for this time of year, creating conditions similar to peak winter.

Yellow Alert Issued

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Thursday and Friday, warning of light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and winds of up to 50 km/h. As per the Delhi weather update, the maximum temperature is expected to drop further to 26–28°C by Friday.

Weather experts, including Skymet, have said the peak intensity of the system is likely on Friday, with overcast skies and consistent rainfall expected throughout the day.

Residents Advised to Stay Prepared

With sudden weather changes continuing, the Delhi weather update advises residents to remain cautious and prepared for further disruptions. What began as a brief evening storm has now developed into a prolonged spell of unseasonal rain, briefly bringing back winter-like conditions in mid-March.
