Following the decision, Suvendu Adhikari along with senior leaders will visit the Raj Bhavan to stake claim for government formation. The BJP government in West Bengal is expected to be formally established after completing constitutional procedures.
The swearing-in ceremony is likely to take place on May 9, coinciding with Rabindra Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to attend the event, which will mark the official beginning of the BJP government in West Bengal.
The rise of Suvendu Adhikari has been central to the BJP’s success in the state. Once a close aide of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, he played a decisive role in defeating her in Nandigram in 2021. In the 2026 elections, he further strengthened his position by winning from Bhabanipur with a significant margin, reinforcing the mandate for the BJP government in West Bengal.
With this historic victory, the BJP government in West Bengal is set to begin a new political era in the state, ending decades of opposition rule and ushering in a new administrative leadership under Suvendu Adhikari.
