Markapuram (Andhra Pradesh): In a tragic Andhra Pradesh bus accident, at least 13 people lost their lives after a private travel bus collided with a tipper lorry and caught fire in the early hours of Thursday. The incident took place near Rayavaram in Markapuram area of Prakasam district, leaving several passengers severely injured.
According to police officials, the Andhra Pradesh bus accident occurred around 6:00 AM when the bus, operated by Harikrishna Travels, was travelling from Nirmal in Telangana to Nellore. The collision was so severe that the bus immediately caught fire, trapping many passengers inside. Several victims were reportedly burnt alive before rescue teams could reach the spot.
Markapuram Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nagraju stated that initially eight deaths were confirmed, but the toll later rose to 13. “Nearly eight people were burnt alive, and around 18 injured passengers have been rescued and shifted to nearby hospitals. Efforts are ongoing to gather complete details,” he said.

Injured Under Treatment, Death Toll May Rise in Andhra Pradesh Bus Accident
District authorities confirmed that around 20 injured passengers are currently undergoing treatment in nearby hospitals. Officials fear that the death toll in this Andhra Pradesh bus accident may rise further due to the critical condition of some victims.
Leaders Express Grief and Announce Relief
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the Andhra Pradesh bus accident and announced financial assistance for the victims. An ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh has been declared for the families of those who lost their lives, and ₹50,000 for the injured.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu also expressed shock and grief over the incident. He reviewed the situation with officials and directed them to ensure the best medical care for the injured. He further ordered a thorough investigation into the causes of the accident.
Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan termed the incident deeply distressing and assured that all necessary steps are being taken for the treatment of the injured.
State IT Minister Nara Lokesh also conveyed his condolences and assured that the government would stand firmly with the affected families.
Meanwhile, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed shock over the tragedy and instructed officials to coordinate with Andhra Pradesh authorities to ensure proper medical support for the injured passengers.
