Puneet Issar Recalls Shah Rukh Khan’s Humble Gesture on the Set of Ram Jaane
Every actor who’s worked with Shah Rukh Khan seems to walk away with a story—and Puneet Issar is no exception. In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, the veteran actor and theatre artist shared a heartwarming memory from the sets of the 1995 film Ram Jaane, which perfectly reflects SRK’s grounded nature.
Puneet recalled a scene being shot at Mumbai’s Kamalistan Studios. “We were doing an over-the-shoulder shot that focused on Shah Rukh. I was there to give him cues, and it took around three hours. Later, when it was time to shoot my part, the lighting team needed about an hour to set up. It was a break, so I just stayed seated on the set,” he shared.
What happened next left a lasting impression on him. “Shah Rukh saw me sitting and came to sit beside me. When the assistant director suggested that his body double could give cues instead, Shah Rukh immediately responded, ‘When Puneet gave me cues, why can’t I give them to him?’ That’s his greatness,” Puneet said with admiration.
Moments like these, Puneet noted, show why SRK isn’t just a superstar—but a true professional and a class act.
Shah Rukh Khan’s thoughtful gestures on set are far from rare- over the years, several co-stars have spoken about his humility and warmth, often calling him one of the most grounded stars in the industry.
Ram Jaane was SRK’s fourth outing in a negative role, following Baazigar, Darr, and Anjaam. Inspired by the 1938 Hollywood gangster classic Angels with Dirty Faces, the film turned out to be a commercial success. Directed by Rajiv Mehra, who had earlier worked with SRK on Chamatkar, the film also featured Juhi Chawla, Vivek Mushran, Pankaj Kapur, and Puneet Issar in key roles.
