The mother of Bondi Beach terror accused Naveed Akram said she cannot believe her son was involved, calling him disciplined and reserved.

The mother of 24-year-old Naveed Akram, one of the individuals charged in connection with the fatal Bondi Beach terrorist incident, has expressed her disbelief that her son was involved in acts of violence. During a statement to reporters on Monday, she characterized him as a reserved and disciplined individual who predominantly remained at home and avoided association with undesirable elements.

Naveed’s mother, Verena Akram, addressed the media outside her residence in Bonnyrigg, stating that she last communicated with her son only hours prior to the incident on Sunday. According to her, Naveed informed her that he was in Jervis Bay with his father and was there for a brief visit.

He contacted me and stated, “Mother, I have just gone for a swim.” I engaged in aqua diving. She stated, as reported by the Sydney Morning Herald, that they would dine now and remain indoors due to the extreme heat. The father and son had previously informed their family that they were departing for a fishing expedition along Australia’s South Coast.

Mother states that her son was unemployed and led a modest existence.

Verena Akram stated that her son was unemployed and led a modest and routine lifestyle. She firmly denied any likelihood of his involvement in extremist or violent activities.

He does not possess a firearm. He does not frequently go out. He does not consume alcohol, does not smoke, and does not frequent undesirable locations, she stated. He commutes to work, returns home, and then proceeds with his exercise routine; that is all. Anyone would desire to have a son such as mine. He is a well-behaved child, she added.

The Assault at Bondi Beach

The assault occurred amid a Jewish Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach in Sydney, resulting in the loss of 15 lives. Naveed Akram was apprehended at the scene, while his father, 50-year-old Sajid Akram, was fatally shot by Australian police during a confrontation, bringing the total number of deaths to 16.

Australian authorities stated that the majority of the victims succumbed to the abrupt and ferocious character of the assault. Reports indicate that Naveed Akram is a citizen of Pakistan.

Australian Prime Minister describes the assault as ‘utterly malevolent’

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese vehemently denounced the murder, describing it as an act of “pure evil,” antisemitism, and terrorism. “What we observed yesterday was an instance of pure malevolence, an act of antisemitism, and an act of terrorism within our borders,” Albanese stated.
