Two Palestinian gunmen opened fire at a bus stop in Jerusalem’s Ramot Junction on Monday morning. The attack killed six civilians and injured more than a dozen in one of the deadliest incidents in the city this year. The attackers were shot and killed at the scene by a soldier and a civilian. Israeli forces launched sweeping operations in the West Bank in response.

H2: Attack Unfolds During Morning Rush

At approximately 10:13 a.m., the assailants opened fire at a crowded bus stop at Ramot Junction in north Jerusalem. Witnesses reported chaotic scenes as commuters fled in panic. Emergency responders rushed the wounded to nearby hospitals, while the gunmen were neutralized immediately.

Paramedics confirmed six killed and at least twelve wounded, some in serious condition. The victims included a rabbi, a former cardiologist, and recent Spanish immigrants. Among the injured was a pregnant woman.

Perpetrators Identified, Security Response Tightens

Israeli security officials identified the shooters as Palestinians from West Bank villages, specifically near Ramallah. A suspected accomplice was later arrested by Shin Bet in East Jerusalem.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu labeled the incident a “terrorist attack” and vowed to pursue anyone involved. Alongside far-right security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, he visited the site, pledging to intensify operations across the West Bank.

The Israeli military enforced road closures, cordoned off suspect villages, and launched raids in a search for accomplices.

Regional Tensions Escalate Amid War Context

The attack intensified already high tensions amid the ongoing war in Gaza. Israeli forces recently expanded military operations into Gaza City and the West Bank following similar attacks.

Hamas and Islamic Jihad praised the attackers but did not take responsibility. The Palestinian Authority condemned violence against civilians from both sides.

International reactions included condemnation from France, Spain, the UAE, and the EU, calling for a return to negotiations.

What’s Next?

With the suspects neutralized, Israeli forces continue broad security sweeps. More arrests are likely as investigations continue.

Authorities have boosted checkpoints around Jerusalem and ramped up intelligence operations. The attack underscores deepening volatility amid the Gaza war and could lead to further escalation.
