A small passenger aircraft carrying 15 people, including a Colombian lawmaker and a congressional candidate, crashed in northeastern Colombia on Wednesday, with no survivors, officials confirmed.
The Beechcraft 1900 twin‑engine turboprop, operated by state‑owned airline Satena as Flight NSE 8849, was flying from Cúcuta to Ocaña in the Norte de Santander province near the Venezuelan border when it lost contact with air traffic control shortly before its scheduled landing.
Local authorities later located the wreckage in a remote, rugged area of Curasica in Playa de Belén and confirmed that all 15 people on board — 13 passengers and 2 crew members — were killed.

Among the deceased were Diógenes Quintero, a member of Colombia’s Chamber of Representatives representing the Catatumbo region, and Carlos Salcedo, a candidate in the upcoming congressional elections.
The crash site’s mountainous terrain and dense jungle complicated search and recovery operations. Colombian authorities, including the Air Force and civil aviation investigators, have deployed teams to the area and launched an official investigation into the cause of the accident.
