Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh:
What began as a heartfelt celebration of Raksha Bandhan quickly turned unsettling at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Central Jail, where officials foiled not one but two attempts by woman to smuggle drugs to their imprisoned brothers.

During the open meeting arranged for the festival, The first lady in the list of drug couriers, apparently trying to send the drugs through an amulet-a talisman which she claimed was meant for her nephew. A guard who was very observant noted that the bulky amulet was not the style that is usually used to conceal illegal drugs. What followed after that was a search that did yield narcotics. Later in the day, another sister was caught trying to smuggle marijuana into the jail by attempting to hide it inside a baby’s diaper. Luckily, it was at the routine screening that her attempt was intercepted before it could reach the inmate.

While the attempts were blocked, the authorities never issued formal charges, allegedly due to the day being festive. The administration, however, had cautioned the women involved and promised greater scrutiny in future occasions. Officials emphasized about Raksha Bandhan, while a day for the affection between siblings, will not be misused for illegal activities.

The incident shines a light on the delicate balance between celebrating cultural traditions and ensuring security within correctional facilities. Jail authorities have reiterated a firm stance: acts of goodwill must not become vehicles for illegal activities.
