Uttarakhand celebrates UCC Day 2026 as Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami marks one year of Uniform Civil Code implementation, emphasizing equality, justice, and women empowerment.
Dehradun : Uttarakhand is celebrating UCC Day across the state to mark the successful completion of one year since the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami described January 27 as a landmark day in the state’s history, emphasizing that the government’s commitment to putting the constitutional spirit of equality into practice has been fully realized.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Dhami recalled that Article 44 of the Indian Constitution envisions a Uniform Civil Code, which remained only a concept for decades. Uttarakhand became the first state in the country to take this historic step, translating the constitutional vision into reality. He described the one-year milestone of UCC implementation as a matter of pride for the state government.
Message of Equality from Devbhoomi
CM Dhami highlighted that Uttarakhand, the land of holy shrines such as Kedarnath, Badrinath, Adi Kailash, and the sacred rivers Ganga and Yamuna, is now sending a nationwide message of equality, justice, and social harmony. He emphasized that the UCC is not just a law, but a transformative step ensuring equal rights, women empowerment, and social protection for all citizens.
Special Programmes Across the State
To commemorate the milestone, special awareness and women empowerment programs are being conducted in both urban and rural areas across all districts. The government aims to educate citizens about the provisions, benefits, and social impact of the UCC. According to CM Dhami, the law has strengthened the spirit of justice and equality in society and is a significant step toward eliminating social evils.
Preparations Underway for Char Dham Yatra
CM Dhami also announced that preparations for the Chardham Yatra, Uttarakhand’s key religious and tourism event, have begun. The state government plans to improve arrangements for road safety, health services, security, traffic management, sanitation, and disaster management, incorporating feedback from last year’s yatra to make it more secure, streamlined, and devotee-friendly.
The Chief Minister reiterated that Uttarakhand aims to set an example for the entire country by balancing development with faith, and the successful implementation of the UCC marks a historic achievement in the state’s journey toward equality and social justice.
