Labour Law Change in Uttarakhand to Benefit Women Employees

by Desk

Uttarakhand Cabinet approves amendments to the Labour Act, lowering registration requirements and allowing women to work night shifts with safety measures and consent.

The state’s labor law has greatly benefited women. Changes to the Labour Act’s provisions have been approved by the Cabinet. The Uttarakhand Shops and Establishment (Employment Regulation and Conditions of Service) Act, 2017 will shortly go into effect, amending Sections 1(2), 8, 9, and 19. Accordingly, the establishment must register under the labor law if it currently employs ten or more people.

This threshold will now be lowered to 20 following the cabinet decision, which won’t put more strain on small businesses. Shops and establishments will become more efficient. Employees will have the chance to work harder, which will boost their income.

On the other hand, the conditional exemption of working night hours (from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.) will boost the financial position of women employees in stores and enterprises. Like men, she will be able to work. Additionally, the gender equality system will work. The requirement is that one institution must set up sufficient security measures and obtain a female employee’s prior consent before allowing her to work the second night shift.
