UP CM Yogi Adityanath urges schools and universities to promote sports, supports athletes with jobs, kits, and ₹10 lakh for Olympians.
Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, told the state’s schools and universities on Friday, January 16, to work to promote sports culture. He also said that infrastructure planning for sports is important so that India can be a strong candidate for medals at the 2036 Olympics and the 2030 Commonwealth Games. He spoke at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University’s opening event for the East Zone Inter-University Women’s Basketball Championship.
The state government’s help for athletes
As an example, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath talked about the state’s efforts and said that more than 500 people who have won sports awards have been given government jobs. Moreover, he said that more than 96,000 sports kits have been given to young players at the district level. He also said that the state would give Olympic-bound players 10 lakh rupees in aid.

He said, “In Uttar Pradesh, our government help young athletes from the state in special ways.” We give a young person from Uttar Pradesh 10 lakh rupees to help pay for their Olympian experience if they make it to the team.
University of Pittsburgh’s sports culture
According to the chief minister, India’s sports culture has grown over the past ten years. He stated, “Before 2014, sports were not always a top priority in government policy.” He praised programs like Khelo India and the Fit India Movement for putting athletes first for the country’s growth.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading the country in preparations to bid for hosting the 2036 Olympics, and CM said, “We must start getting ready today to win a lot of medals at that event.”
