Redevelopment to be executed in coordination with the Transport Department to enhance public transport infrastructure
Chandigarh, July 11:
In a key step towards strengthening transportation infrastructure in the state, Punjab’s Rural Development and Panchayats Minister, Tarunpreet Singh Sond, announced that the Talwara bus stand will soon be revamped and modernized. The project will be carried out in collaboration with the Transport Department, aiming to provide improved travel facilities and a better commuting experience for passengers.
The minister made the statement in response to a Call Attention Motion during a session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, where concerns were raised about the deteriorating condition of the Talwara bus stand. He assured that the state government is actively working to address the issue by formulating a comprehensive redevelopment plan.
- “The government recognizes the importance of well-maintained and accessible transport hubs. The Talwara bus stand building will be upgraded in coordination with the Transport Department to ensure that commuters get the facilities they deserve,” said Minister Sond.
Part of a Broader Infrastructure Upgrade Plan
The initiative is part of the Punjab government’s larger strategy to upgrade rural and semi-urban infrastructure, with an emphasis on improving basic amenities and connectivity. The revamped Talwara bus stand is expected to include modern design features, enhanced passenger seating, clean sanitation units, digital timetable displays, and better safety arrangements.
Officials from both the Rural Development and Transport Departments will work jointly on planning, design, and execution to ensure the project meets current-day needs and standards.
Boost to Regional Connectivity and Public Services
The Talwara bus stand serves not only the town itself but also nearby villages and areas, acting as a crucial point in the regional transport network. The revamp will significantly benefit daily commuters, students, workers, and senior citizens, many of whom rely on public transport as their primary mode of travel.
Local Response and Next Steps
Residents of Talwara have long been demanding improvements to the aging bus stand facility. The announcement has been welcomed with optimism, with many citizens expressing hope that the project will be executed without delay and set a precedent for similar projects in other towns.
The government has not yet specified a timeline for the commencement of work, but officials have indicated that preliminary assessments and planning discussions are already underway.
As Punjab continues its focus on inclusive and balanced development, initiatives like this are expected to strengthen infrastructure at the grassroots level while improving the overall quality of public services.
