Bhajan Lal Sharma Completes Two Years as Rajasthan CM with Landmark Decisions

Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma marks 58th birthday with two-year tenure highlights, including Anti-Gangster Task Force and enhanced Kisan Samman Nidhi.

Jaipur: Rajasthan’s Chief Minister, Bhajan Lal Sharma He was sworn in as the Chief Minister on December 15, 2023, and on this day, which is also his birthday, it is celebrated. He was born on the fifteenth of December, 1967.  December 15th, 2025, he has reached the age of 58. His two-year tenure as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan has also concluded. However, he was elected as an MLA for the first time and subsequently had the opportunity to assume the office of Chief Minister for the first time. Opposition leaders may have characterized him as an inexperienced leader, but during his two-year tenure, Bhajanlal Sharma made numerous significant decisions that will ensure his lasting remembrance. Examine the five key decisions that established his reputation as a transformative figure.

1. Establishment of the Anti-Gangster Task Force

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma also holds responsibility for the Home Department. Days following his appointment as Chief Minister, he established the Anti-Gangster Task Force to address severe criminal activities. Senior IPS officer Dinesh MN was appointed as the designated nodal in-charge of the task force. This task force performed a historic and effective effort in dismantling criminal organizations. Gangsters concealed in various states, including Rajasthan, were also apprehended alongside those concealing abroad. Five criminals concealed in Italy, Dubai, the United States, and California were apprehended. Among these, Anmol Bishnoi has been transported to India, while efforts are underway to transfer the others.

2. Significant measures taken regarding document leak incidents

Days following his appointment as Chief Minister, Bhajanlal Sharma declared the establishment of a dedicated Special Investigation Team to investigate the paper leak cases. The Special Investigation Team was established under the supervision of the Additional Director General of the SOG. The case will be formally registered at the SOG police station, and the SIT will conduct the investigation. The same SIT team disclosed the case of the paper breach during the sub-inspector recruitment examination. A total of 137 defendants, including 69 police officers, were apprehended. In addition to the SI recruitment 2021, the Gorakh business involving counterfeit degrees was also uncovered, leading to the apprehension of several operators from various private universities.

3. Growth in the membership of RPSC

The government has implemented significant measures to enhance the Rajasthan Public Service Commission, responsible for recruiting officers in Rajasthan. So far, the commission comprised seven members, a number that has now been expanded to ten. With the growth in membership, recruitment processes will be concluded promptly, ensuring transparency is upheld. This action taken by the Bhajan Lal government is regarded as a historic milestone.

4. An additional Rs 3000 in the Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme

Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, the central government provides an annual sum of Rs 6000 to farmers across the country. In a significant effort, the Rajasthan government has elevated the Kisan Samman Nidhi at its level. Initially, one thousand rupees are being provided, followed by two thousand rupees, and presently, three thousand rupees are being allocated. Rajasthan is the inaugural state in the nation where cultivators receive an annual amount of Rs 9000 under the Samman Nidhi scheme. Among these, Rs 6000 is provided by the central government, while the state government contributes Rs 3000. Seventy-six lakh farmers in the province are benefiting from this scheme.

5. ERCP and the Yamuna Water Accord

The ERCP was a significant issue during the election period, regarding which both the Congress and the BJP made substantial promises. The Bhajan Lal administration has accomplished significant work within a year. Two agreements between Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh were executed jointly. The central government will now contribute 90 percent to this initiative, while Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh will be responsible for only 10 percent each, i.e., 5 percent each. The state administration has also collaborated with Haryana to supply Yamuna water to the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan.
