Amit Shah said the three new laws will bring “ease of justice” by reforming the criminal justice system and shifting focus from punishment to justice.
Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, announced on Monday that the conviction rate in Rajasthan had risen from 42% to 60% following the implementation of the new criminal laws. Mr. Shah was present at the Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Centre to inaugurate an exhibition commemorating the one-year anniversary of the implementation of the new laws on criminal prosecution and evidence.
“He stated that the conviction rate will increase to 90% upon the completion of the implementation. He also mentioned that the chargesheets are being submitted on time in the majority of the cases.”
According to Mr. Shah, the three laws would result in a “simplified justice system” and a shift in emphasis from the punitive approach, as they would reform the criminal justice system.
He emphasized that the colonial era’s antiquated laws had deprived the populace of the right to seek justice promptly. Mr. Shah stated during his address to the audience that the criminal justice system will be motivated by justice and transparency rather than punishment as a result of the new legislation.
“These laws will prove to be the most significant reform of the criminal justice system in the 21st century…” Mr. Shah stated that they will guarantee that the initial information reports are resolved up to the Supreme Court within three years after 2027. He further stated that the provisions regarding digital crimes, mob lynching, and terrorism would facilitate the effective prosecution of these offenses.
Rajasthan police have organized the exhibition, which will remain open until October 18. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam are the new laws that replaced the previous ones on July 1, 2024. These laws define the crimes and establish the procedure for trial.

The event was also attended by the acting Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court, Sanjeev Prakash Sharma, and Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.
Mr. Amit Shah also unveiled investment propositions valued at ₹4 lakh crore, for which memorandums of understanding were executed at the Rising Rajasthan Investment cattle husbandry.
