Punjab Sacrilege Amendment Bill 2026 Toughens Law on Supporters of Sacrilege

Punjab Sacrilege Amendment Bill 2026 will also punish those supporting sacrilege, says Harjot Bains.

Cabinet Minister Harjot Bains stated in a press conference that the Punjab Sacrilege Amendment Bill 2026 has been drafted with expert legal and scholarly consultation to ensure strong protection of religious sentiments and strict punishment for sacrilege-related offences.

He explained that the Punjab Sacrilege Amendment Bill 2026 clearly mandates that investigations in sacrilege cases can only be conducted by officers of DSP rank or above, ensuring greater accountability, sensitivity, and seriousness in handling such cases.

Harjot Bains further emphasized that the Punjab Sacrilege Amendment Bill 2026 does not allow any form of compromise or settlement in sacrilege cases, ensuring that offenders are dealt with under strict legal provisions without exception.

He also highlighted that under the Punjab Sacrilege Amendment Bill 2026, individuals found supporting or encouraging sacrilege will also face equal punishment, making the law more comprehensive and deterrent in nature.

The Minister also criticized the Akali Dal Badal faction, alleging that their absence from the special Assembly session reflects their stand on issues related to religious respect and the Punjab Sacrilege Amendment Bill 2026.

He said that the Punjab Sacrilege Amendment Bill 2026 represents the sentiments of the Sikh community and aims to strengthen justice, peace, and religious harmony in Punjab through strict legal enforcement.
