Punjab Police foil cross-border narco-arms operation in Amritsar; heroin, weapons seized, 4 arrested; further investigation ongoing.

In a significant breakthrough as part of Punjab’s ongoing efforts to ensure safety and security under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have dismantled a cross-border narco-arms smuggling network. Four operatives were arrested, and authorities recovered 1.5 kg of heroin along with ₹1.98 lakh in drug proceeds, said Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Jaskinder Singh alias Sikander, Harpal Singh, Gurmukh Singh, and Sukhdeep Singh, all residents of Ranian village in Amritsar. Police also seized two sophisticated pistols—a 9MM and a .30 bore—along with 34 live cartridges manufactured by Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF).

DGP Yadav stated that initial investigations indicate the accused were coordinating with foreign handlers and Pakistani smugglers via social media. Following instructions from these handlers, the operatives were reportedly collecting consignments of illegal arms and heroin delivered by drones from across the border and distributing them to various locations within Punjab. Further investigation is ongoing to identify additional links in the smuggling chain.

Sharing details of the operation, Amritsar CP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that acting on specific and reliable intelligence, police teams conducted a well-planned raid resulting in the arrest of the four accused. On the basis of disclosure statements, two pistols were recovered from Gurmukh Singh and Sukhdeep Singh, while 1.5 kg of heroin was seized from Jaskinder Singh and Harpal Singh.

Further investigation revealed that all four accused belong to the same extended family. Harpal Singh and Gurmukh Singh are brothers, while Jaskinder Singh alias Sikander and Sukhdeep Singh are their nephews. All fall within the age group of 19 to 33 years and reportedly have no prior criminal record.

A case has been registered under FIR No. 11 dated 22-01-2026 at Police Station Civil Lines, Amritsar, under Section 25 of the Arms Act.
