Punjab Police arrested 74 drug smugglers in 278 raids under CM Mann’s anti-drug campaign, seizing narcotics and cash as total arrests reach 38,634.
Punjab Police conducted raids at 278 locations on Sunday, leading to the arrest of 74 drug smugglers after registering 59 first information reports (FIRs) throughout the state. This was part of the 274th day of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign against drugs, which aims to eradicate the drug menace from the state consecutively. This means that in 274 days, 38,634 drug smugglers have been apprehended overall.
1.5 kg of heroin, 1.6 kg of ganja, 25 kg of poppies, 349 intoxicant tablets, and Rs 4.59 lakhs in drug money were found in the custody of drug smugglers who were arrested as a result of the operations.
Notably, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has urged the Senior Superintendent of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Commissioners of Police to declare Punjab a drug-free state. A Cabinet Subcommittee consisting of five members, headed by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, has also been established by the Punjab government to oversee the fight against drugs.

In the state, 278 raids have been carried out by more than 100 police teams, which consist of more than 800 police officers, overseen by 58 gazetted officers. During the day-long operation, police teams have also inspected up to 308 questionable individuals.
39 people were persuaded to receive de-addiction and rehabilitation therapy today by the Punjab Police as part of the state government’s three-pronged effort to eradicate narcotics from the state: Enforcement, Drug Abuse, and Prevention (EDP).
