Mohali Panchayat elections postponed as 15 villages merge with Municipal Corporation; reorganization of Zila Parishad & Panchayat Samiti Mohali underway.
The Department of Rural Development and Panchayats has notified the State Election Commission that, as a result of the Department of Local Government’s notification dated November 28, 2025, 15 villages that were adjacent to the Municipal Corporation of Mohali have now been incorporated into the Municipal Corporation’s boundaries. The 15 Gram Panchayats of Panchayat Samiti, Mohali, are no longer under the jurisdiction of the relevant Panchayat Samiti/Zila Parishad Mohali area as a result of this announcement, according to clarification from the Department of Rural Development and Panchayats. The Department of Rural Development and Panchayats must carry out a new reorganization of the Zila Parishad area and Panchayat Samiti Mohali due to the recent considerable change in their limits.

On the advice of the Department of Rural Development and Panchayats and Deputy Commissioner Mohali, the State Election Commission has decided to postpone holding elections for Panchayat Samiti Mohali members and Zila Parishad Mohali members until the Department of Rural Development and Panchayats has finished reorganizing these zones. To be clear, the election to choose representatives for Panchayat Samiti DERA BASSI, Panchayat Samiti KHARAR, and Panchayat Samiti MAJRI will take place on time.
