April 7, 2025 – Nawanshehar – In a significant move to overhaul the state’s education system, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann unveiled a monumental Rs 2,000 crore investment under the ‘Sikhiya Kranti’ (Education Revolution) initiative. The announcement marks a new chapter in Punjab’s education sector, focusing on providing state-of-the-art facilities, modernizing school infrastructure, and improving teacher quality.
Speaking at the inauguration of a new block at the School of Eminence in Nawanshehar, the Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming the education landscape in Punjab. He highlighted that this initiative is part of a larger effort to enhance both the health and education sectors, ensuring the youth receive world-class learning experiences.
Revolutionizing Punjab’s Education System
The ‘Sikhiya Kranti’ initiative, which aims to provide cutting-edge facilities and academic opportunities, is part of the Punjab government’s broader strategy to rejuvenate government schools. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann expressed pride in the fact that what was once seen as a compulsion for families—the necessity of sending children to government schools—has now transformed into a choice, thanks to significant improvements in the system.
“We have worked tirelessly to make sure that the education system benefits every child. No longer will children be sent to government schools out of necessity. It’s now their choice because we have revamped the quality of education,” Mann stated during his address.
State-of-the-Art Schools of Eminence Across Punjab
As part of the ‘Sikhiya Kranti’ initiative, Schools of Eminence have been established throughout the state. These schools are equipped with modern infrastructure, including advanced science and computer labs, libraries, and sports facilities. The Chief Minister mentioned that Punjab’s education reforms focus not just on academic excellence but on holistic development, ensuring students are well-prepared for competitive exams and future careers.
“Punjab is experiencing a true educational revolution. The government is working hard to equip students with the skills they need to succeed in the modern world,” he added.
Boosting Teacher Training and Skill Development
A key element of this initiative is the state government’s focus on improving teacher quality. Mann revealed that Punjab’s teachers are being sent to prestigious national and international institutes to enhance their teaching methods. This is part of a broader strategy to raise the standards of government school education, making them more competitive and effective.
In addition, the government is ensuring that each school is adequately staffed. With over 54,000 jobs created in the education sector, all positions are filled based on merit, ensuring a highly skilled workforce that contributes to the state’s educational progress.
Combating Drugs and Empowering Youth
The ‘Sikhiya Kranti’ initiative is not only about improving education but also about tackling the issue of drug abuse in the state. Chief Minister Mann launched the ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’ (War Against Drugs) campaign, aiming to channel the energy of Punjab’s youth in a positive direction. He explained that the rise in drug abuse has had a devastating impact on Punjab’s future, with many young lives lost to addiction. The state government is committed to fighting this problem by focusing on both education and law enforcement.
“We are working to protect the future of our youth. Our education system will provide an alternative to drugs, fostering the next generation of leaders, professionals, and citizens,” Mann remarked.
A Focus on Mentorship and Competitive Success
The Punjab government is also introducing a unique School Mentorship Program, wherein senior IAS and IPS officers will mentor rural schools across the state. This pilot initiative will be launched in 80 Schools of Eminence and aims to bridge the gap between government schools and competitive exam standards. By working with students, teachers, and school administrators, these officers will act as catalysts for educational success, providing guidance, resources, and expertise to help improve the educational environment.
This program reflects the government’s vision of ensuring that every child, no matter their background, has access to quality education and the support they need to excel.
Positive Outcomes and National Recognition
Punjab’s education transformation is already yielding positive results. Over 12,000 schools have undergone a complete makeover, with more than 29 lakh students benefitting from improved facilities and teaching. Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who attended the event, praised the Punjab government for its relentless focus on education, noting that the state’s education system has undergone a dramatic transformation in the last three years.
“Punjab has truly emerged as a leader in education reform. The government’s commitment to quality education is evident in the improvements seen across the state,” said Sisodia, acknowledging the strides made in both infrastructure and teacher quality.

With an allocation of Rs 18,047 crore (11% of the total state budget) dedicated to education, the Punjab government is laying a strong foundation for a prosperous future. The budget will fund ongoing initiatives, including the expansion of Schools of Eminence and the introduction of innovative programs like the School Mentorship Program.
