Chandigarh, September 2: Punjab ministers Aman Arora and Barinder Goyal visited the Ghaggar River near Makror Sahib to assess the rising water levels.
The inspection comes in the wake of heavy rainfall across Sangrur district, prompting the state government to strengthen flood management measures. Officials confirmed that preventive steps are being taken to ensure public safety and minimize damage.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab has deployed teams to monitor rivers, water bodies, and flood-prone areas. The administration has also coordinated with local authorities to ensure that relief and evacuation plans are ready for immediate execution.
Flood Preparedness Measures Underway
During the visit, Ministers Aman Arora and Barinder Goyal reviewed river embankments and drainage systems near Makror Sahib. They emphasized the need for continuous monitoring of water levels and early warning systems.
“The state government is fully committed to protecting citizens and property during this period of heavy rains,” said Minister Arora. “Our teams are working tirelessly to prevent flooding and ensure relief reaches affected communities without delay.”
Officials confirmed that temporary shelters, emergency supplies, and medical assistance are being prepared for areas at risk. Local administration has been instructed to remain on high alert and coordinate with police, fire, and disaster management teams.
State Leadership and Community Safety
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has urged residents near rivers and low-lying areas to remain vigilant and follow official advisories. The government has activated control rooms in Sangrur and adjoining districts to coordinate rescue operations and respond to emergencies efficiently.
Additionally, teams are clearing riverbanks and checking flood embankments for potential breaches. The administration is also deploying pumps, boats, and relief materials in vulnerable areas.
Minister Goyal highlighted that collaboration between departments and local communities is critical during this time. He urged citizens to report any urgent concerns via official helplines.
Ongoing Monitoring and Early Action
The Punjab government’s approach focuses on early detection and rapid response to flood threats. Satellite data, river gauges, and rainfall measurements are being used to track rising water levels in real time.
Local authorities have been instructed to conduct regular checks on bridges, embankments, and drainage systems. Meanwhile, rescue and relief teams are on standby to assist people in flood-affected areas.
Authorities reiterated that citizens should avoid unnecessary travel near rivers, move to higher ground if required, and cooperate with government personnel during evacuation efforts.
