Punjab Intensifies Flood Relief Operations

Chandigarh : The Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has stepped up efforts to support families hit by recent floods. Relief operations are underway across affected districts, with ministers, MLAs, and officials actively working in villages to restore essential services.

Alongside government machinery, social organizations and volunteers are extending full support, ensuring timely supply of food, water, fodder, and other essentials. The administration has prioritized rehabilitation, health safety, and infrastructure restoration to bring normal life back quickly.

Harjot Singh Bains Orders Rapid Assessment

Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains visited flood-affected villages in Sri Anandpur Sahib, including Dadda, where he reviewed ongoing relief efforts. He distributed fodder for livestock and directed officials to complete girdawari (crop damage survey) immediately.

He also emphasized repairing damaged houses, restoring roads, and ensuring uninterrupted water and electricity supply. Bains assured villagers that the government is committed to resettling displaced families. “Under the CM’s leadership, we will restore normalcy at the earliest,” he said.

Health Teams Mobilized to Prevent Disease

In Ludhiana, Cabinet Minister Dr. Balbir Singh focused on public health concerns in flood-hit areas. He said that once waters recede, health teams will conduct door-to-door surveys to prevent disease outbreaks.

Preventive measures, including chlorination of water sources, fumigation, and installation of RO systems in schools, are already in place. “Our priority is to prevent waterborne and vector-borne diseases. Clean drinking water and hygiene will protect families from secondary crises,” Dr. Singh noted.

Relief Trucks and Aid Materials Dispatched

Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond dispatched another truck of relief supplies from Mandi Gobindgarh to affected areas. The consignment included solar lights, tarpaulins, and food materials, with support from HF Super Milk Plant owner Vinod Kumar Dutt.

Earlier, Sond had already sent three relief trucks from Khanna to Fazilka. He stressed that coordinated efforts between government and private contributors are ensuring timely assistance to distressed families.

Monitoring Ghaggar Belt Operations

Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goel personally monitored rescue and relief operations in the flood-affected Ghaggar belt near Lehra Gaga. He confirmed that the water level is expected to recede by 4–5 inches by September 10.

Goel highlighted that departmental staff are conducting 24-hour monitoring along an 18-km stretch of embankments. He said strict supervision would prevent further breaches and protect nearby villages.

MLAs and Officers Lead Community Support

MLAs are also spearheading local relief efforts. Kuljit Singh Randhawa flagged off two trucks loaded with cattle feed and fodder from Lalru Anaj Mandi to Shahpur Jajan and Dera Baba Nanak. He urged citizens, institutions, and the government to work together for rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy provided a boat worth Rs. 5.63 lakh to flood-hit Atoo Wala village in his constituency. He assured that ration, cattle feed, and Rs. 20,000 per acre compensation for farmers will reach all affected families.

In Fazilka, Senior IAS Officer Kanwalpreet Brar and Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu visited relief camps in Mozam, Rana, and Salem Shah villages. They distributed food for children and hygiene kits for women. Temporary classes with a mobile library were also started for children in camps.

Currently, 2,761 people are staying in 14 relief camps, each under the supervision of senior officers. Veterinary teams are attending livestock, while medical teams are ensuring regular checkups for affected families.

Punjab’s Commitment to Rehabilitation

The government has reiterated its commitment to full rehabilitation of flood-affected families. Ministers stressed that coordinated efforts are being made to provide relief, health safety, and compensation while also preparing for long-term recovery.

By combining administrative action with volunteer support, Punjab aims to not only rebuild damaged infrastructure but also restore confidence among affected communities. The CM has directed departments to work shoulder-to-shoulder with citizens until normal life returns.
