Chandigarh, Punjab: Finance Minister Harpal Cheema highlighted Punjab’s remarkable economic performance over the past four years, attributing it to transparent governance and effective fiscal management. Speaking at a media program, he presented a detailed comparison of key revenue streams under previous governments and the current administration, showcasing significant strides in Punjab economic growth.

Revenue Achievements Under AAP

Stamp Duty Collections:
  • Akali-BJP Government (2012–2017, 5 years): ₹12,387 crore
  • Congress Government (2017–2022, 5 years): ₹12,469 crore
  • AAP Government (2022–2026, 4 years): ₹19,515 crore
GST Receipts:
  • 2022: ₹60,000 crore
  • Target for 2027: ₹1.20 lakh crore, doubling in five years
Excise Duty Collections:
  • Akali-BJP Government (2012–2017, 5 years): ₹6,151 crore
  • AAP Government (2022–2026, 4 years): ₹12,800 crore
Capital Expenditure:
  • Akali-BJP Government (2012–2017, 5 years): ₹14,661 crore
  • AAP Government (2022–2026, 4 years): ₹19,356 crore
  • Transparent Governance and Fiscal Discipline

Minister Cheema emphasized that these numbers reflect the administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and strategic planning. “Our efforts in streamlining revenue collection and promoting fiscal responsibility have led to unprecedented Punjab economic growth, benefiting every sector of the state,” he said.

The current government has focused on policies that strengthen the treasury, increase investment, and expand public welfare initiatives. According to Cheema, the clear upward trajectory in revenue and capital expenditure demonstrates that Punjab economic growth is no longer constrained by past inefficiencies.

Doubling GST and Investment in Development

Highlighting the GST milestones, Cheema stated, “We started with ₹60,000 crore in 2022 and aim to double it to ₹1.20 lakh crore by 2027. This ambitious target is a direct result of efficient governance and robust Punjab economic growth strategies.”

The finance minister also noted that capital expenditure under the current government has surpassed previous regimes, reflecting a sustained focus on infrastructure, healthcare, and education. “Such financial discipline and strategic spending underline the long-term vision for Punjab economic growth,” he added.

Through transparent governance, fiscal reforms, and strategic planning, the AAP-led Punjab government has achieved remarkable results in revenue generation and public spending. The numbers presented by Finance Minister Harpal Cheema highlight that Punjab economic growth is now on a path of sustainability, efficiency, and inclusive development.
