Central University of Punjab celebrates 56th Samvidhan Diwas with expert lectures, quiz, discussions, and a mass Preamble reading to promote constitutional values.

In order to strengthen constitutional principles within the campus community, the Central University of Punjab held a number of academic and awareness-raising events in observance of the 56th Samvidhan Diwas, or Constitution Day. The Dr. Ambedkar Chair on Human Rights & Environmental Values, the Department of Law, and the Department of South and Central Asian Studies collaborated to organize the festivities, which were carried out in compliance with the Ministry of Law & Justice’s Department of Legal Affairs’ requirements. The program included a discussion session, an invited expert lecture, a quiz competition, and a mass reading of the preamble.

The invited lecture, “Constitution as a Bridge: Dr. Ambedkar’s Vision on Indian Unity,” given by eminent academic Prof. Ronki Ram of Punjab University’s Department of Political Science in Chandigarh, was one of the celebration’s main highlights. According to Prof. Ram, the Constitution is a collaborative tool for addressing societal issues and a symbol of Indian freedom. According to him, the Constitution is a moral and intellectual charter that aims to lead the country toward social change based on fairness rather than just being a legal instrument.

While talking about the Constitution’s philosophical underpinnings and current applicability, Prof. Ram brought up Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s cautions about the “grammar of anarchy” and the perils of hero worship in democracies. He emphasized that turning political democracy into social democracy based on the ideas of “one person, one vote, and one value” is what the actual spirit of the constitution is all about. In order to maintain social cohesion and inclusive nation-building, he reaffirmed the importance of upholding constitutional morals.

Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, who gave the presidential speech, praised the organizers and attendees for commemorating Samvidhan Diwas in an intellectually stimulating way. He reaffirmed that education and mental development are the cornerstones of human advancement while considering Babasaheb’s worldview. Dr. Ambedkar’s timeless principle that “equality, liberty, and fraternity” must function as an interconnected trinity for a just and peaceful social order was further emphasized by Prof. Tiwari. He urged students to become responsible, socially conscious citizens committed to social peace and national service, and he encouraged them to live out these constitutional principles via compassion, cooperation, and teamwork.

Students and research experts enthusiastically participated in the program’s opening quiz competition on the Indian Constitution. A discussion session on the topic of “Has the Doctrine of Separation of Powers trumped the ideal of Federal Structure: Presidential Reference No. 01 of 2025?” followed this. Participants actively participated in the seminar, sharing their opinions on changing constitutional interpretations. The university community reaffirmed their dedication to the democratic values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity by participating in the Mass Reading of the Preamble toward the event’s end.

The university’s commitment to raising constitutional awareness and encouraging responsible citizenship was highlighted by the Samvidhan Diwas festival.
