Amritsar Property Linked to Drug Trafficking Demolished; Authorities Seize Large Quantity of Heroin

Chandigarh/Amritsar, July 11:
In a decisive move under its ongoing anti-drug campaign “Yudh Nashe Virudh” (War Against Drugs), the Punjab Government has demolished a property in Amritsar linked to a notorious drug trafficking network. A significant quantity of heroin was also seized during the operation, underscoring the administration’s intensified crackdown on narcotics and cross-border smuggling activities.

According to a post shared by the Punjab Government’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the demolished property was being used as part of an illegal drug trade operation. The action comes as part of a renewed and robust enforcement effort by the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government to rid the state of the drug menace.

Part of a Larger Battle Against Drug Networks

This operation is one of several being carried out across the state as Punjab faces one of the most persistent and devastating drug crises in the country. Notably, the current campaign marks the fourth deadline set by the state government to achieve a drug-free Punjab, revealing both the complexity of the challenge and the government’s renewed commitment.

Despite earlier efforts, drug addiction and trafficking continue to plague the state, driven largely by cross-border smuggling from Pakistan. The border districts, especially Amritsar, Tarn Taran, and Ferozepur, have become hotspots for the movement of narcotics, often facilitated by drones and organized syndicates.

Seizures Reflect Growing Scale of Smuggling

Recent seizures—including over 111 kilograms of heroin reported in related investigations—reflect the alarming scale of the problem. The use of advanced surveillance and tracking, as well as demolition of properties linked to drug lords, marks a shift toward a more aggressive stance by law enforcement agencies.

The state government has also been working in coordination with central agencies and border security forces to tighten control along the international border, with drone detection and anti-infiltration measures becoming central to their strategy.

A Message to Drug Traffickers

Officials say that such high-profile demolitions are intended to send a strong message to drug traffickers: Punjab will not tolerate the use of its land and communities for the spread of narcotics. By targeting both the physical assets and the networks behind the drug trade, the government hopes to dismantle the infrastructure that enables narcotics distribution.
