Punjab Government Distributes Debt Waiver Certificates to Poor Families in Patiala

Patiala, July 18, 2025 – In a strong move to provide economic relief to marginalized communities, Punjab Cabinet Minister Dr. Balbir Singh distributed debt waiver certificates to a large number of underprivileged families in Patiala district. This initiative, carried out under the direct guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, reflects the Punjab government’s sustained commitment to supporting the economically vulnerable.

The distribution event is part of a larger state-wide campaign aimed at reducing financial burdens on poor and debt-ridden families, particularly those affected by stagnant income, inflation, or agricultural struggles. Beneficiaries in Patiala expressed emotional gratitude, calling it a lifeline amid ongoing financial hardships.

 A Step Toward Inclusive Growth

Dr. Balbir Singh, while addressing the gathering, emphasized that this move aligns with the Aam Aadmi Party’s vision of inclusive governance. “This isn’t just about waiving debt—it’s about restoring dignity, hope, and opportunity to the people who need it most,” he said.

The initiative forms part of the government’s broader social welfare agenda that includes healthcare expansion, education reform, and rural infrastructure improvements.

 Statewide Strategy for Debt Relief

This Patiala event follows similar relief efforts across Punjab. In Hoshiarpur, debt totaling ₹8.5 lakh was recently waived for 17 selected beneficiaries, highlighting a structured and region-wide approach to financial justice. Officials suggest that such drives will continue in phases throughout 2025 to ensure no eligible family is left behind.

As Punjab continues to navigate its socio-economic challenges, initiatives like these not only provide immediate financial relief but also rebuild public trust in governance. The state’s debt waiver program is emerging as a model of targeted, humane policymaking aimed at those who need the most support.
