MP FIR Names Men Dead for 10 Years After Vidisha Clash
FIR in Vidisha Clash Lists Two Deceased Adults as Accused
In Vidisha district of Madhya Pradesh, an FIR filed after a communal clash on July 17 mistakenly named two individuals who reportedly died over a decade ago. The incident occurred in Bareth village under Basoda police jurisdiction.
Days after the FIR, one group approached senior police to highlight the error. They also claimed one accused was not present at the clash. This has prompted a review of charges.
Police Launch Officer Review After Error Exposed
Additional Superintendent of Police Prashant Chaubey confirmed that an internal probe is underway to address the issue and make correctives. He warned that including deceased persons in a charge sheet is a serious lapse.
Chaubey stated, “If the persons mentioned in the complaint are not present, then they will get relief. Action will be taken against those who were present… In the FIR stage, we can rectify if any errors have happened.”
Complaint Filed for Impartial Inquiry
On July 21, a group led by Raj Kumar Sharma filed a formal application with the Superintendent of Police. They requested an impartial inquiry and rectification of the mistake.
The application now awaits review by a Sub-Divisional Officer in charge of evidence collection.
Implications and Need for FIR Accuracy
This incident highlights risks in police documentation. FIRs serve as the foundation for criminal cases and must be factually correct. Authorities stress that timely correction during the FIR stage can prevent wrongful prosecution.
Chaubey’s clarification reassures those wrongly implicated, signaling a fair-minded intervention to uphold judicial accuracy.
Preventing Future Documentation Errors
Such errors could stem from mistaken identity or poor record verification. The Vidisha case underscores the need for stronger verification processes before police filing. Authorities now face pressure to tighten internal checks and improve data accuracy.
Community Reactions and Tensions
Locally in Bareth village, this FIR has exacerbated community tensions. The clash already raised concerns about communal relations. Now, mistrust extends to law enforcement and record integrity. Neutral inquiry by authorities is seen as vital.
