Tragic End for Madhya Pradesh Family Amid Affair, Threats

Sagar (Madhya Pradesh), August 4, 2025: In a heart-wrenching incident, four members of a family died by suicide in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district last week. The case, now under police investigation, has revealed disturbing facts about infidelity, threats of false charges, and emotional trauma that pushed the family to the edge.

The victims include 45-year-old Manohar Lodhi, his 70-year-old mother, and his two teenage children — a daughter aged 18 and a son aged 15. The incident occurred overnight between July 25 and 26 in the Khurai area of Sagar district.

Illicit Affair at the Root of the Tragedy

According to the police, the tragedy stemmed from an ongoing affair between Draupadi, Manohar’s wife, and Surendra, his childhood friend. The affair had reportedly been going on for a while, and the family was well aware of it.

Despite repeated objections, Draupadi and Surendra insisted on continuing their relationship. They allegedly told the family that they “could not live without each other,” according to the investigation report.

Matters escalated when Shivani, Manohar’s 18-year-old daughter, witnessed her mother in intimate situations with Surendra multiple times. The ongoing stress and humiliation left the family in mental distress.

As the confrontation over the affair intensified, Draupadi allegedly threatened the family with false dowry and domestic violence cases. Fearing legal and social consequences, the family found themselves trapped.

Suicide Using Sulphas Tablets

Unable to cope with the constant pressure, the family took the extreme step. All four reportedly consumed Sulphas tablets, a highly toxic pesticide commonly used in suicides across India.

According to Dr. Varsha Kesharwani of Khurai Civil Hospital, Manohar’s son and mother died on the spot, while he and his daughter were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Tragically, Shivani died before she could be shifted to a larger hospital, and Manohar passed away in the ambulance.

The police confirmed the timeline of events and the cause of death. “As the girl and her father were in serious condition, they were referred to the Sagar district hospital. The girl died before she could be shifted, while her father breathed his last during transit,” said Dr. Kesharwani.

Arrest and Legal Action

Following a preliminary investigation, police arrested Draupadi and Surendra on charges of abetment to suicide. The couple was presented in court and has been sent to judicial custody.

Town Inspector Yogendra Singh said, “The investigation revealed that the illegal relationship between Manohar’s wife and her lover is the main reason behind this suicide. Both the accused have been arrested and sent to jail.”

Authorities are also probing whether there were any prior complaints or warnings about the situation and whether neighbors or relatives were aware of the escalating conflict.

Public Reaction and Mental Health Concerns

The case has sparked widespread outrage and sympathy across the region. Many have taken to social media to express concern over the rising cases of domestic tension, emotional abuse, and suicide.

Mental health experts have reiterated the need for counseling and support systems, especially in rural areas where emotional distress often goes unnoticed.

Community leaders have called for awareness drives to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
