Haryana Hospitals Focus on Patient Safety, Women’s Health, and Neonatal Care

Haryana Additional Chief Secretary for Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Sumita Misra, conducted a comprehensive review of the state’s health department, issuing several directives to enhance patient safety, healthcare quality, and women-centric healthcare services across government hospitals.

Dr. Sumita Misra emphasized hospital safety, especially in light of recent fire incidents in hospitals nationwide. She instructed Deputy Commissioners and Civil Surgeons to conduct thorough inspections of electrical systems, including wiring and power panels, and mandated regular safety audits and preventive maintenance. Funding will be provided to upgrade Community Health Centres, Primary Health Centres, and District Hospitals with better infrastructure, safety systems, and patient care facilities.

Sumita Misra also reviewed biomedical waste management, stressing strict adherence to norms for segregation, collection, and disposal, along with proper documentation and coordination with authorized agencies to avoid health and environmental risks.

Patient Welfare, Women’s Health, and Neonatal Care Prioritized Across Haryana Hospitals : Dr.Sumita Misra

On patient welfare, Dr.Sumita Misra directed transparent use of the Hospital Welfare Fund, ensuring expenditure directly benefits patients and strengthens hospital services.

Highlighting women’s healthcare, she called for a holistic approach beyond maternal and adolescent care, including preventive care, nutrition, mental health, and age-related health needs. Focus areas include screening for cervical and breast cancer, anaemia, osteoporosis, menopause management, counselling, and menstrual hygiene awareness. Overall hygiene in hospitals was also prioritized.

The meeting further focused on neonatal care, with directives to strengthen NICUs and newborn services to reduce infant mortality and improve survival outcomes across Haryana.
