Haryana Woman Kills Four Children in Disturbing Crime Spree
A shocking case from Haryana has stunned residents and raised serious concerns about mental health awareness in rural communities. A 32-year-old woman from Panipat, identified as Poonam, allegedly killed four children over the last two years. The victims included three young girls and her own three-year-old son. Police revealed that jealousy and emotional instability drove her to commit the crimes.
Officials confirmed that the woman used the same method for each murder, as she drowned the children in a water-filled tub or tank. The case surfaced after police cracked the suspicious death of a six-year-old girl earlier this week.
Moreover, authorities believe the pattern shows long-term emotional issues that escalated after her marriage in 2019. They said the accused “hated pretty girls” and feared they might grow up to be more beautiful than her.
Accused Confesses to Killing Girls Aged Six and Nine
Panipat Superintendent of Police Bhupendra Singh explained that the woman appears mentally disturbed. He added that she targeted the children during routine family visits and social gatherings.
The latest victim was a six-year-old girl from her extended family. The child’s relatives had arrived in Panipat to attend a wedding ceremony. However, the girl later went missing, which led to an investigation and the woman’s arrest.
During questioning, the accused confessed that she had killed three more children, including two six-year-old girls and one nine-year-old girl. All of them were related to her. These earlier deaths were considered accidental at the time, so their families performed the last rites without filing complaints.
Additionally, police said the accused had killed her own son, Shubham, in 2023 because she feared her relatives might start questioning her behaviour if she only targeted other children.
SP Singh stated, “She killed two children, including her son, in Bhawar in 2023, and another girl in Siwah in August this year.” He added that her motive remained consistent in every confession.
According to investigators, the accused told police, “I hate beautiful girls. They were too beautiful, and I felt jealous.”
Police Examine Mental Health Angle as Motive Emerges
The woman reportedly developed extreme irritation whenever she saw young girls who looked “pretty” to her. Family members said she often compared herself to others and showed signs of insecurity. Her behaviour worsened after her marriage into Bhawar village in Sonipat.
Additionally, police noted that she would often isolate herself and display aggressive emotional responses. Although no formal diagnosis exists yet, the officers believe she may have suffered from untreated psychological issues.
Moreover, authorities stressed that the disturbing motive seemed rooted in envy and anxiety rather than material intention. Her statements during interrogations suggested she feared being overshadowed or judged based on physical appearance.
The SP said, “She appears to be mentally unwell, and her behaviour changed sharply after marriage.” He also mentioned that she has one more child who is now under the supervision of the authorities.
Investigation Continues; Community Shocked by Confessions
Local villagers from Siwah and Bhawar expressed deep shock after news of the confessions spread. Many said they never suspected the woman because she appeared calm during social functions.
Furthermore, officers are now re-examining the earlier deaths that were labelled accidental. Post-mortem records from previous cases may be reviewed to verify the cause of death.
The police have assured families that a detailed investigation is underway. They also plan to involve mental health experts to understand the psychological factors behind the murders.
Authorities emphasised that community awareness about behavioural changes, especially in young mothers, must improve. Early psychological intervention could prevent similar tragedies.
