Haryana to Launch ₹2,100 Monthly Aid for Women Under Lado Lakshmi Yojana

Haryana Rolls Out Lado Lakshmi Yojana Ahead of Rakshabandhan

The Haryana government is preparing to launch the Lado Lakshmi Yojana, a flagship welfare scheme that will provide ₹2,100 per month to eligible women across the state. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is expected to officially announce the scheme before Rakshabandhan, fulfilling a key BJP poll promise made during last year’s assembly elections.

The scheme closely mirrors BJP’s successful models in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, which helped the party consolidate its female voter base.

Financial Empowerment for BPL Women

According to the draft policy prepared by the Department of Social Justice, the scheme will be rolled out in four phases. In the first phase, approximately 46 lakh women below the poverty line (BPL) with an annual income of less than ₹1.8 lakh will receive the monthly benefit.

Sources indicate that the number of eligible women between 18 and 60 years of age could go as high as 75 lakh, once the scheme is fully implemented.

The BJP made a promise to the sisters and mothers of Haryana ahead of last year’s Assembly polls. We have worked on the modalities and have sent it to the CM’s office. Saini will officially launch the scheme in the coming days,” said Social Justice Minister Krishan Kumar Bedi.

The scheme is being positioned as a “gift for Haryana’s women”, according to sources familiar with the CM’s communication strategy.

Budget Allocation and Eligibility Criteria

The budgetary outlay for the Lado Lakshmi Yojana stands at ₹5,000 crore. However, the final budget may be revised based on the number of actual beneficiaries.

Women who are currently employed or already receiving other social benefits—such as widow pensions, retirement, or destitution assistance—are likely to be excluded from this scheme. Officials estimate that about 8.5 lakh women fall into this excluded category.

Although the eligibility criteria are still being finalized, the state government is developing a dedicated online portal to streamline the application and verification process. While officials had earlier stated that the portal would launch after the CM’s announcement, Saini has hinted that registration for eligible women may begin soon.

Inspired by Successful BJP Models

The Lado Lakshmi Yojana is inspired by the Ladli Behna Yojana in Madhya Pradesh and Ladki Bahin Yojana in Maharashtra, both of which significantly boosted BJP’s outreach among women voters.

  • In Madhya Pradesh, women aged 23 to 60 receive ₹1,250 per month under the Ladli Behna Yojana.
  • In Maharashtra, the Ladki Bahin Yojana provides ₹1,500 per month to one woman per family with an annual household income below ₹2.5 lakh.

These schemes have proven to be game-changers in state elections, and Haryana appears to be following suit in an attempt to strengthen BJP’s support base among women ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Political Implications and Rollout Timeline

The move is also being viewed as a strategic political decision as Haryana prepares for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and upcoming municipal polls. The timing—just before Rakshabandhan—adds emotional appeal and is likely to resonate with families across rural and urban Haryana.

The CM’s office is expected to make the official announcement within days, potentially accompanied by a high-profile event or press conference. Once live, the portal will enable eligible women to register digitally, ensuring transparency and efficiency in disbursing benefits.
