Haryana honored as the 3rd Best State in 6th National Water Awards 2024 for outstanding integrated and sustainable water management.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, declared Haryana to be the “Third Best State” in the esteemed 6th National Water Awards 2024. The state’s outstanding accomplishments in integrated and sustainable water management are highlighted by this esteemed award.

The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, presented the award to Haryana’s Irrigation and Water Resources Minister, Smt. Shruti Choudhry, who was representing the state at the ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. Sh. V. Somanna, the Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti, and Sh. C.R. Patil, the Union Minister for Jal Shakti, were also in attendance.

Achievement Driven by a Powerful and Innovative Integrated Water Resource Management Strategy

Haryana’s success, according to Smt. Shruti Choudhry, is a result of its robust and innovative integrated approach to water resource management, which combines community involvement, scientific planning, and technology innovation for long-term water security. An comprehensive water conservation plan has been designed in the state.

For better results, everyone has to understand how to conserve water.

Water conservation is everyone’s duty and needs to be promoted as a public movement, according to Smt. Choudhry. Even greater water conservation outcomes will be observed once everyone is aware. She noted that ongoing efforts are being undertaken to guarantee that water efficiently reaches the ultimate tail-end.

She stated that the Irrigation and Water Resources Department profoundly appreciates the ongoing advice of the Union Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs, Sh. Manohar Lal, and Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini. The state’s combined efforts to manage water resources in a sustainable and equitable manner have been further reinforced by their leadership. She also emphasized the importance of groundwater recharge for the global community and the need for more effort in this area.

The state’s Irrigation and Water Resources Department appreciates the Ministry of Jal Shakti for this esteemed award and Union Jal Shakti Minister Sh. C.R. Patil for recognizing Haryana’s steadfast dedication to water sustainability. The submission for the 6th National Water Awards 2024 was submitted by the Irrigation and Water Resources Department, Haryana, in February 2025, and the Ministry’s ground-truthing team undertook a full examination.
