Over 4,600 water samples fail in Surat; BJP criticized by AAP and SMC opposition for forcing residents to drink contaminated water.

Surat, Gujarat : The BJP’s triple-engine government in Gujarat is facing sharp criticism after more than 4,600 water samples in Surat reportedly failed safety tests, raising serious concerns over public health and access to clean drinking water.

Payal Patel, opposition leader in the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), strongly criticized the ruling government, saying that citizens are being forced to consume contaminated water. “The BJP’s triple-engine government in Gujarat cannot even provide clean water to Surat. More than 4,600 water samples have failed, and today people are forced to drink contaminated water,” Patel said.

The opposition leader called for immediate intervention to ensure safe water supply, stressing that prolonged negligence by authorities could have severe health consequences for residents. Patel also accused the municipal administration of failing in its duty to monitor water quality and implement adequate treatment measures.

Public health experts have warned that consuming contaminated water can lead to waterborne diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, and hepatitis, especially among children and the elderly. Citizens have reportedly expressed their frustration over the lack of timely action by the authorities.

Political analysts note that this water crisis could intensify public scrutiny of the BJP government’s performance in Gujarat, particularly ahead of upcoming local and state-level elections.

As of now, there has been no official response from the Surat Municipal Corporation or the Gujarat state government regarding the failed water samples. Residents are awaiting immediate remedial measures to ensure access to clean and safe drinking water.
