AAP slams BJP for “baseless charges” after the Collector dismisses claims that MLA Chaitar Vasava sought ₹75 lakh. Party alleges ongoing attempts by BJP to defame its leaders.
Ahmedabad, Gujarat: A fresh political clash erupted in Gujarat on Thursday after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of making “false and baseless allegations” against its Dediyapada MLA, Chaitar Vasava. The controversy began when BJP’s Bharuch MP Mansukh Vasava alleged that the MLA had demanded ₹75 lakh, a claim the district collector later rejected.
AAP’s Gujarat State Organisation General Secretary Manoj Sorathiya, in a video statement, sharply criticised the BJP and defended the MLA. Sorathiya said, “The Bharuch Collector has clearly stated that Chaitar Vasava did not demand ₹75 lakh. The allegation made by Mansukh Vasava is incorrect and baseless.”
He added that leaders “sitting on a heap of corruption” were now targeting an honest public representative. “Those who never work for the people are now defaming someone who fights for citizens’ issues,” he said.

Sorathiya also demanded the immediate resignation of Mansukh Vasava, saying, “You had said you would resign if the government does not support you. Today the Collector has dismissed your accusation. If you still have any shame left, you should resign.”
AAP Accuses BJP of “Pattern of Defamation”
This is not the first time the Aam Aadmi Party has alleged political harassment by the BJP in Gujarat.
Sorathiya recalled previous instances where AAP leaders faced police cases and allegations that were later dismissed or lost relevance. He pointed at the earlier controversy involving AAP leader Isudan Gadhvi, where accusations of misconduct and intoxication were made, followed by an FIR and a press conference by the Kutch SP linking the case to AAP leaders including Gopal Italia and Sorathiya himself.
“What happened to those allegations?” Sorathiya asked. “Where did the cases go? Filing false FIRs, harassing leaders, and attempting to damage reputations — this has become the BJP’s strategy.”
“Gujarat Knows Who the Real Corrupt Are”: AAP
AAP insisted that the people of Gujarat are aware of the political reality and the ruling party’s tactics.
“The BJP has been in power for 30 years, yet they failed to serve the public. Now they are resorting to false allegations to malign AAP leaders. Gujarat’s citizens know who the real corrupt people are,” Sorathiya said.
He warned that if the BJP leaders do not step down despite public pressure, “the people themselves will ensure their resignation in the upcoming elections.”
