Saurabh Bhardwaj: Courts Must Act on Fake AQI Readings in Delhi

by Desk

AAP Delhi President Saurabh Bhardwaj accuses the BJP and pollution authorities of manipulating AQI data as Delhi records “very poor” air quality and severe smog.

AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) Delhi President Saurabh Bhardwaj stated that “courts are not taking suo muto action, despite knowing that the BJP is involved in manipulating air pollution data” in reference to the persistent levels of pollution in Delhi.

“There is a question in the minds of the people of Delhi today,” he stated. When the AAP was in power in Delhi, the Supreme Court and the High Court were renowned for acting on their own initiative if there was a hospital medication shortage or any other issue. It was well known that the judges would act on their own initiative if pollution levels rose.
“Can’t the Delhi High Court see that all AQI monitoring stations are displaying bogus data by sprinkling water on them? Can’t the Supreme Court see that AQI monitoring stations are shut down anytime the AQI rises? Do you not believe that the courts ought to take action on their own after witnessing this? How long has the public been bringing their attorneys to knock on the doors of the courts? “The way the data is being manipulated is becoming more and more common, so I ask that the court take action in these cases,” he said.

“As a result, the public will continue to get sick, and the BJP government will claim that it has simply lowered pollution figures as an excuse,” he stated.
He insisted that the officers of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) be held accountable for “manipulating the data instead of controlling pollution.”

First of all, the issue of pollution control is different, he stated. The issue here is that they are actually falsifying pollution data. The authorities in charge of lowering pollution, DPCC and CPCB, are currently engaged in data manipulation. Their officers ought to face consequences, including suspension.

With an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of roughly 355 on Thursday, Delhi’s air quality fell into the “Very Poor” category.

The quality of the air varied; in the morning, some monitoring stations recorded AQI levels in the “Severe” category (over 400). PM2.5 was the main pollutant.

A day after the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) lifted Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage III limitations, a blanket of deadly smog enveloped Delhi on Thursday, with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reporting that the air quality remains in the “very poor” category.

According to environmentalist Vimlendu K. Jha, “if we take into account government monitoring stations, more than half of the air quality monitoring stations in Delhi are showing a rating of 400 plus, which is of the “severe” category, and in some areas, the AQI is even reaching 450 plus, which is basically “hazardous.” However, things get worse when I include private monitoring stations; my own gadget indicates that the AQI in my house is 397.
