Delhi CM Rekha Gupta inspects Chandni Chowk, orders cleanup of trash, fixes to pavements; stresses cleanliness ahead of festivals under Swachhata drive.
During the Swachhata Hi Seva (Cleanliness is Service) campaign, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta voiced her disapproval of the trash and damaged pavements in Chandni Chowk and gave officials instructions to fix the situation right away. Gupta emphasized Chandni Chowk’s heritage designation, emphasized the importance of improved sanitation, particularly during festivals, and urged store owners to cooperate.
Rekha Gupta, the chief minister of Delhi, visited Chandni Chowk and personally swept the pavement in front of the Gauri Shankar Temple as part of the “Swachhata Hi Seva” (Cleanliness is Service) program.
Throughout her tour, she directed officials to address the dirty conditions, trash heaps, and damaged pavements in several regions. “This area of Chandni Chowk is a heritage site,” the Chief Minister said, highlighting the location’s significance. This place receives hundreds of thousands of visitors. Additionally, it is a crucial location for corporate organizations.
She pointed out that because the area is home to numerous religious sites and serves as a path for religious processions (Shobhayatras), hygiene becomes even more crucial during festivals. Gupta stated, “There is a need to improve cleanliness here,” pointing out that there were numerous broken or damaged pavements, grills, and dustbins. “We have reviewed the arrangements with officials and have given instructions to improve them.” Additionally, she stated that local store owners must exercise caution in this regard.
Along with other BJP politicians and business representatives, she was accompanied by district president Arvind Garg and local MP Praveen Khandelwal. After taking over as the minister in charge of the Chandni Chowk parliamentary constituency, this was the Chief Minister’s first trip to the Chandni Chowk region.
