 New Delhi: According to sources, the Delhi government plans to relaunch its interstate bus service on September 25. Nearly 15 years after it was halted during the switch from DTC to CNG buses, the interstate bus service is about to resume. A plan to deploy 100 electric interstate buses on 17 routes was authorized by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) earlier this year.

Officials say the busses are expected to be waved off on September 25 and head to Baraut. The administration is testing the waters in the first phase by launching the services in a nearby region. Three busses are probably going to operate.

For the upcoming implementation phase, the original plan to implement electric buses on all routes has been modified, according to an official. “The absence of infrastructure for charging electric buses makes it impractical to operate them to distant areas. Therefore, it has been determined that we will employ a wet lease model for buses, in which a concessionaire will join the team and run the buses on our behalf. These buses will comply with BS-VI,” the spokesman continued.

He added that DTC is now working on the tender and that the project will proceed after that. After the contract is signed, the concessionaire’s revenue-sharing plan will be finalized.

DTC to Resume Interstate Bus Service with AC Buses on 17 Routes Including Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jammu, and More

For the resuscitation of its interstate bus service, the DTC has selected 17 locations, including Amritsar, Chandigarh, and Jammu; Panipat in Haryana; Ayodhya, Lucknow, and Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh; and Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Dehradun in Uttarakhand.

According to an official, the new long-distance buses would have air conditioning, a 12-meter length, and room for luggage. According to the source, fares will be finalized after the concessionaire joins the company, but they should be affordable and less than the majority of buses that are already running similar routes. “The fares will be economical and lower than those of most buses currently operating on these routes,” he stated.
