Delhi pollution crisis deepens with AAP attacking BJP over inaction and missed Winter Plan deadlines. Toxic air raises concerns during Russian delegation’s visit.

As a Russian delegation arrived in India for diplomatic engagements, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over Delhi pollution situation. In a sharp criticism posted on X, AAP questioned whether BJP leaders felt “any shame” about the capital’s dangerous air quality levels during an important international visit.

AAP shared a video showing thick smog in parts of Delhi, alleging that pollution has remained consistently hazardous due to delayed and ineffective action by authorities. The party said that had the Winter Action Plan been implemented on time this year, the city would have seen “considerable relief.”

AAP’s Criticism on Air Quality Action Plan

In the post, AAP claimed that pollution continues to remain at emergency levels despite repeated warnings from environmental agencies. The party argued that the absence of timely measures allowed smog to intensify across the National Capital Region (NCR).

“The pollution situation has been continuously at a dangerous level. If the Winter Action Plan had been prepared and implemented on time, there would have been considerable relief by now,” AAP stated in its tweet.

The party also questioned the optics of welcoming an international delegation at a time when the capital’s air remains among the worst globally.

Severe Air Quality Continues Across Delhi-NCR

For nearly a week, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has stayed in the ‘Severe’ category, with several areas crossing 450. Experts warn that prolonged exposure at these levels can cause respiratory issues, especially among children and senior citizens.

The smog situation intensified due to a combination of factors including stagnant wind movement, vehicular pollution, industrial emissions, and seasonal biomass burning in neighbouring regions.

Political War of Words Intensifies

While AAP has blamed the BJP-led Central agencies and the Lieutenant Governor’s office for “lack of coordination,” BJP leaders have repeatedly accused the Delhi government of failing to control local sources of pollution, including dust, waste burning, and vehicular emissions.

This latest exchange adds to the ongoing political tussle over pollution management between the AAP-led Delhi Government and BJP-led administrations at the Centre and neighbouring states.

Environmental experts continue to urge strict enforcement of GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan) measures, increased monitoring of industrial emissions, and reduction of non-essential travel. With winter intensifying, authorities fear that air quality may worsen unless coordinated action is taken.
