Delhi IGI Airport refurbished Terminal 2 reopens on October 26 with modern upgrades, SBD kiosks, and 120 daily Air India & IndiGo flights shifting operations.
Delhi IGI Airport operator, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), announced on Monday that the refurbished Terminal 2 will reopen to passengers on October 26, coinciding with the start of the winter schedule. This year, after Terminal 1 became fully operational, the terminal was closed in April for a complete overhaul. T2 will be able to accommodate increasing passenger traffic and be ready for the future thanks to the renovation.
Starting on the night of October 25–26, around 120 domestic flights per day operated by Air India and IndiGo will transition to T2. As stated by DIAL, this change is anticipated to alleviate traffic and offer passengers an improved experience. Several technology that are favorable to passengers will be part of the renovated facility. Passengers can self-check their bags using the self-baggage drop (SBD) system, which cuts down on line times at the counter.
Also, six brand new passenger boarding bridges equipped with autonomous docking technology will boost aircraft handling efficiency and speed, which has never been done before in India. The terminal’s modern ceilings and skylight designs provide a bright and airy ambiance, enhancing the entire passenger experience. Improvements to the flooring have increased their comfort and longevity, while improvements to the road connections have made it easier to reach the terminal.
Additionally, the statement mentioned that there have been significant upgrades to the HVAC systems, a new high-resolution flight information display system (FIDS), improved signs for accessibility, and enhanced fire safety measures. Passengers with decreased mobility will also benefit from these upgrades.
According to Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO of DIAL, “Terminal 2 is a complete reimagination of the passenger journey,” which goes beyond a simple infrastructure renovation.

“We are preparing Delhi IGI Airport for the future of aviation with technologies like self-baggage drop and autonomous docking aerobridges,” Jaipuriar stated, emphasizing the airport’s impact on travelers, efficiency, and technological advancements.
The apron and airside areas have also been extensively renovated to enable the smooth operation of planes and to support the growing volume of traffic. These areas have been in use for almost 40 years.
