Delhi : A devastating fire broke out in Palam, Delhi, claiming the lives of around 10 people, including three to four children. Eyewitnesses reported that children were trapped on the building’s balcony, screaming for help, while the Delhi Fire Brigade’s delayed response failed to prevent the tragedy.

Saurabh Bhardwaj, AAP leader, criticized the BJP-led Delhi government, stating, “Once again, Delhi witnesses a fire tragedy where government negligence and an underprepared fire brigade have cost innocent lives, including children. Why is the government still unprepared for repeated disasters?”

This Palam fire mirrors previous incidents in Delhi. In Dwarka, a father and two children were forced to jump from a balcony due to delayed fire response, leading to fatalities. Similarly, in Rohini, slum fires claimed the lives of two children even though a fire station was located only five minutes away; yet, the brigade arrived an hour later.

Delhi Fire Safety Concerns Mount as Palam Incident Highlights Government Negligence

Today’s incident in Palam reflects a disturbing pattern of daily fire outbreaks across the capital. Bhardwaj questioned the government’s preparedness, stating, “The BJP government must explain why citizens’ lives are repeatedly at risk. Proper fire safety infrastructure, trained personnel, and timely emergency response are non-negotiable. Delhi residents deserve better.”

Citizens and experts alike have raised concerns about systemic failures, including insufficient fire safety measures, slow emergency response, and lack of preventive monitoring in high-risk areas. The Palam fire tragedy underscores the urgent need for reforms to prevent further loss of life.

Delhi has seen multiple fire tragedies in recent months, raising questions about the administration’s ability to protect its residents. The repeated failures of the fire brigade and the government’s slow action have fueled public outrage and calls for accountability.
