Shubman Gill proposes 15-day prep camps before Test series after India’s 2-0 loss to South Africa. BCCI evaluates strategy for red-ball revival.
The Indian team’s results in the longest format, Test cricket, have suffered, despite their success in white ball cricket. After a spirited 2-2 draw in England and a 2-0 triumph over the West Indies, the team’s recent 2-0 series loss to South Africa at home sparked indignation from fans and demands for significant changes.
It’s interesting to note that Shubman Gill, the Test captain of India, has proposed holding 15-day camps for the team before to the red ball series.
Shubman Gill’s Strategic Recommendation To BCCI
According to an anonymous Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source cited in the aforementioned TOI report:
“Gill made it very evident that the team needed to improve their preparation before starting a Test series. This season, there was a scheduling problem that left the team with little time to be ready. A 15-day red-ball camp prior to a Test series would be ideal, Gill suggested to the Board.
Since being named captain, Shubman Gill has been India’s best batsman in the format. He was unable to play a significant role against the Proteas, but he got a ton in England and helped the team defeat the West Indies in a series.

Gill had to be removed from the field because of neck spasms during India’s opening innings in the IND vs. SA 1st Test, which was played at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens venue.
He was sidelined for the duration of that game and the second one due to the injury, which caused some last-minute stress for the club.
While Gill was away, Rishabh Pant took over, but the outcome was far from ideal.
Is Gambhir’s Future Secure in Test Cricket?
Following India’s 2-0 loss to South Africa, many also questioned Gautam Gambhir, the country’s head coach.
The 2011 World Cup final hero of India had a turbulent red-ball coaching career, having lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia and achieved his second home series clean sweep.
The BCCI has stated unequivocally that they do not intend to fire Gambhir.
