Bangladesh Bans IPL Broadcasts After Mustafizur Rahman Dropped by KKR

Bangladesh Government Orders IPL Broadcast Ban

by Desk

Bangladesh bans IPL broadcasts after Mustafizur Rahman is dropped from Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of IPL 2026. Read full details.

Following the removal of Mustafizur Rahman from the Kolkata Knight Riders‘ roster, the government of Bangladesh has prohibited the Indian Premier League (IPL) from being televised in the nation.

At the recent IPL 2026 Mini Auction, the three-time champion team paid Rs 9.2 crores to get the fast bowler from Bangladesh.

In a recent statement, the team said that the IPL and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had told them to release the player.

Political tensions have caused the cricketing relationship between Bangladesh and India to deteriorate in recent years. A scheduled white-ball series tour to the nation was postponed by the BCCI in 2025.

Notably, the Bangladesh Cricket Board is refusing to travel to India in order to conduct its forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026 matches outside of that country.

The government of Bangladesh declares the IPL ban.

The following is a statement from the Bangladeshi government regarding their decision to restrict IPL broadcasts in the nation:

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a directive regarding the exclusion of Bangladeshi star player Mr. Mustafizur Rahman from the Kolkata Knight Riders squad for the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament, which is set to begin on March 26, 2026. The Indian Cricket Board’s decision has hurt, disappointed, and displeased the people of Bangladesh, and no logical explanation for it is known.

“Under these circumstances, until further notice, a request is made as per instructions to stop the broadcast/telecast of all matches and programmes of the Indian Premier League (IPL).”

“This order is issued with the approval of the proper authority and in the public interest.”

Mustafizur Rahman, who last played for the Delhi Capitals as a substitution in 2025, had been a reasonably consistent presence in the competition from Bangladesh before the current events.
