Dhaka/Lahore: Bangladesh’s star pacer Mustafizur Rahman has officially signed with Lahore Qalandars for ₹6.44 crore ahead of the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL). This comes weeks after his record ₹9.20 crore deal with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was abruptly terminated due to a direct directive from the BCCI.
Massive Pay Cut for “The Fizz”
Mustafizur, who was KKR’s marquee signing during the December 2025 mini-auction, now faces a significant reduction in earnings. While top “Platinum” players in the PSL typically earn ₹1.40–1.70 crore, Mustafizur’s PSL contract represents a ₹7.12 crore pay cut compared to his IPL deal.

Why No Compensation from KKR?
Legally, Mustafizur is in a gray area regarding his IPL salary. His release stemmed from administrative and political reasons, not injury, leaving him ineligible for standard IPL insurance. Since he never joined KKR or bowled in the 2026 season, the franchise is under no contractual obligation to pay any portion of his auction fee.
Return to PSL
The 2026 season marks Mustafizur’s return to PSL after an eight-year gap. He last played for Lahore Qalandars in 2017-18. Once it became clear that the BCCI would bar him from IPL 2026, the Qalandars moved quickly to secure his services.
Wider Fallout from IPL Exit
Mustafizur’s IPL release has sparked significant controversy:
-
Bangladesh banned IPL broadcasts, citing player safety concerns.
-
Bangladesh players were withdrawn from the T20 World Cup 2026, replaced by Scotland.
-
Pakistan cited this situation as the reason for boycotting the IND-PAK T20 WC match on February 15.
The handling of Mustafizur Rahman’s IPL exit has thus become a key factor influencing regional cricket politics and T20 World Cup developments.
