The famous Magh Mela currently underway in Prayagraj has reached its concluding phase, attracting lakhs of devotees from across India and abroad to the sacred Triveni Sangam. Pilgrims continue to take holy dips at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers, believing that bathing and offering prayers during the festival brings exceptional spiritual merit.

This year, the sixth and final major bathing day, known as Mahasnan, is scheduled for Sunday, February 15, 2026. The auspicious bath coincides with the festival of Mahashivratri, marking the end of the 44-day-long spiritual gathering and increasing the day’s religious significance. Devotees hold the belief that bathing in the sacred waters of the Sangam and performing abhishek of Lord Shiva on this day can lead to spiritual liberation, or moksha. Large numbers of pilgrims are expected to assemble at the Triveni Sangam from early morning to participate in the ritual bath.

Astrologers have noted that several favorable planetary alignments are forming on Mahashivratri this year, making the occasion even more spiritually rewarding. Devotees consider this alignment highly propitious for prayers, fasting, and performing sacred rituals dedicated to Lord Shiva.

In Hindu tradition, Mahashivratri represents the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Bathing in holy rivers, observing fasts, and offering prayers on this day are regarded as highly meritorious. It is believed that taking a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam during Mahashivratri cleanses past sins and aids the devotee in attaining spiritual salvation.
